Opportunities to Make a Difference in Coventry


At Connecting for Good, we're all about driving positive change in Coventry. We are working with several amazing grassroots initiatives tackling a range of important issues, and right now, they are looking for passionate people to join them in making a change! Whether you want to give a few hours of your time, or you’re looking to develop your leadership skills, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and make a difference.

This is a call to action for anyone who:

  • Has Time to Give: Whether it’s an hour a week or more, every bit helps to drive change.

  • Is Civic-Minded: Committed to making Coventry a better place for everyone.

  • Wants to Learn: For those interested in taking on leadership roles there are opportunities to learn more about the Community Organising approach we take at Connecting For Good.

  • Wants to use their skills for good.


Opportunities available with the following grassroots initiatives:


  1. Join the C(r)UE! Coventry Urban Eden (CUE) is recruiting new core team members and volunteers.

Who are CUE? Coventry Urban Eden is a collective of local people committed to promoting and co-creating sustainable green spaces in the city centre. This year we have revitalised the raised bed outside Central Hall with fresh planting and a beautiful mural, we have also collaborated with the Herbert Museum on their outdoor space. We have another site lined up and funds to spend by next March, so if you want to get involved, now is the time!

Types of people they are looking for:

  • New core team members to help with carrying out our strategy - developing green spaces and people to maintain them.

  • Volunteers for the behind-the-scenes work of running an ambitious community group!


Tasks include:

  • Community outreach

  • Sharing ideas and growing knowledge

  • Organising and supporting events

  • Following up on contacts and tasks

  • Updating our social media

  • Support writing funding bids

  • Gardening work - digging, planting, weeding, watering 

  • Your unique skill that we don't know about yet...


Time commitment: This is flexible depending on your offer. As a core team member, you will be expected to join our monthly team meetings and spend a few hours per month following up on tasks agreed upon. Whilst a commitment to volunteer for practical gardening work or another specific task will be ad hoc and vary throughout the year.

  1. Survivor Sanctuary are looking for volunteers...

Who are Survivor Sanctuary? Survivor Sanctuary is a grassroots, survivor-led organisation offering peer-to-peer support for victim survivors. We create a safe space for connection, belonging, and friendship through shared lived experiences, supporting survivors at any stage of their journey. In addition to fostering community, we advocate for survivors to have a voice in policy decisions that affect them, working to reform reporting processes and improve access to specialised support.


Types of people they are looking for:

  • Warm, friendly volunteers to welcome guests, help set up activities, and join in on sessions.

  • Women for our women’s group and people of any gender for our Trans and Queer group.

  • You do not need to be a survivor, we encourage people with any lived experience.

  • Women-only volunteers - for our women’s group.

  • Any gender volunteers for our Trans and Queer group.

  • Someone who can provide a warm and friendly welcome.

  • Can chat about anything and everything with our group - never about people’s trauma. We love to chat about what is good on TV, recipes and general chit-chat.

  • Someone keen to build their skills and experiences.

  • Someone who understands and can respect confidentiality.

  • Someone who would like to join in with craft and well-being activities, hosted by a guest facilitator.


Tasks include: Survivor Sanctuary offers a safe and welcoming space for people in the city. We run sessions several times a month, where volunteers help with setting up, serving drinks and cakes, and supporting activities.


Time Commitment: No regular commitment is required—just sign up for dates when you're available. Training on working with survivors will be provided.

  1. Be a Toileteer for the Need The Loo Campaign



A Need the Loo quote that says "It takes careful planning to go out. I need to know beforehand what is open and what is accessible."

What is Need the Loo? a group of Coventry citizens working with Connecting for Good to campaign for better public toilet provision in Coventry’s city centre. We’ve heard countless stories from people struggling to access toilets, and it’s clear: Coventry’s toilet situation affects us all. From families with young children to people with health conditions and everyone in between, access to public toilets is a basic need that’s increasingly hard to meet. We are working with Coventry City Council and other local organisations to tackle the issues.


Types of people they are looking for:

  • Social media-savvy individuals to help spread the word.

  • Networking gurus to engage businesses and communities.

  • Creative thinkers for writing, photography, and design tasks.

  • Positive, friendly volunteers to assist with tasks like spot-checking local toilets.

  • People with lived experience of needing the loo.


Tasks include: 

  • Attending core team meetings to plan and strategise.

  • 1-1s with local businesses to help them understand the importance and value of accessible toilets in their business.

  • Spot checkers to report on toilet visits.

  • Creating and maintaining social media content.

  • Creative tasks to help bring the campaign to life.


Time Commitment: This is flexible depending on your offer.

  • Core team - one monthly meeting and time allocated to follow up on tasks and actions to drive the campaign forward.

  • Spot checkers - whenever you use a public toilet in Coventry! There is an easy-to-use form to fill in.

  • Volunteering skills would depend on the task.

Destination Ball Hill - Our Vision: A Stronger, Greener, and More Connected Ball Hill

What is Destination Ball Hill? Destination Ball Hill is a dedicated local community group, open to everyone who lives, works, or spends time in Ball Hill and shares our vision for a better, cleaner, and more socially connected area. Our group is a coalition of residents, local businesses, and community leaders—including headteachers, faith leaders, librarians, and other champions of Ball Hill—working together to regenerate our neighbourhood and instil a deep sense of pride and belonging.


Our work is organised into four focused issue groups, each led by a strategic core team:

  • Environment: Organising monthly litter picks and connecting businesses, residents, and the city to keep our pavements accessible and tackle fly-tipping. We’re working hard to bring back green spaces, informed by our air quality monitoring.

  • Community Hub: Developing a permanent community space for everyone. We’ve already opened a pop-up hub at the 2-Tone Village, running every Wednesday since June.

  • Creatives: Bringing colour and street art to our area with painted planters, mural projects, and a new community notice board.

  • Business Network: Working to reintroduce banking services and collaborating with our PCSOs.


Who We’re Looking For

Anyone passionate about supporting our vision to make Ball Hill a place we can all be proud of—greener, cleaner, and more connected!


  • Litter busters!

  • Urban gardeners to tend Ball Hill’s plants and help expand green spaces.

  • Creatives of all genres

  • Friendly, welcoming faces for our Community Hub.

  • Media-savvy individuals.

  • Website creatives who know their bytes from their bits!

  • Vibrant, hands-on “wanna-do” people to support planning and strategy or help behind the scenes.


Tasks Include

  • Joining and supporting our Environment, Community Hub, and Creative groups.

  • Assisting with social media and poster design.

  • Supporting our website and/or newsletter.

  • Volunteering at our Community Hub (every Wednesday).

  • Organising funky fundraisers.

  • Helping with coordination and community outreach.

  • Assisting with event planning and support.

  • Bringing any skills and passions you’d like to share!


Time Commitment: Flexible! Give as much or as little time as you can—whether once a month or a few hours each week, Ball Hill will appreciate your support!
