Public toilets aren’t exactly the most exciting topic of conversation – but when you need one, you really need one. And for many people in Coventry, finding a clean, accessible public toilet can be a real challenge.

Recently, we’ve been hearing that men face specific challenges when using public toilets, particularly around accessibility and health-related needs. For example, there’s often nowhere to dispose of incontinence pads or stoma bags – an issue that affects many men but is rarely talked about.
Have Your Say!
That’s why we’re asking men in Coventry to share their experiences – so we can highlight the issues and push for real solutions. We want to hear from you. Take our quick survey to share your experience
We’ve Listened Before – And We’re Still Listening
At Need the Loo, we’ve already heard from many people about the barriers they face. Also, we have heard lots of stories about the toilet providers who are getting it right in Coventry. We’re currently working with Coventry City Council to address some of the issues raised, including a lack of clear toilet signage in the city centre. We’re also collaborating with public health teams to raise awareness of the challenges people face when visiting the city.
Here’s what people have told us:
"I have Crohn’s disease and was in an acute situation. No public toilets were available. I was in a terrible state when I got home and didn’t have a washing machine. I had to bin my clothes."
"I took my mum (who has Alzheimer’s) for a coffee. She needed the toilet urgently, but the café wouldn’t give us the door code until we’d paid. I had to ask another customer for their receipt. It was inhumane – would they prefer people to have accidents?"
"I use a scooter and so I do not find toilets to be scooter friendly."

These stories matter. Toilets aren’t a luxury – they are a necessity.
Your feedback will help us campaign for better public toilet provision – because toilets matter for everyone.
